We have been receiving a lot of great questions from parents and students about how we are handling the uncertain nature of the upcoming semester. We have posted some of the most requested information below. Please call our office at (608) 256-2273 if you have any questions about our program that are not addressed. Current office hours are M-F, 9am-5pm
- You can start a Red Card Meal Plan with any dollar amount. If you have any concerns about the upcoming semester, our suggestion is that you start with a smaller initial deposit and add funds to the account as needed.
- If for any reason your student needs to leave school early this fall, any remaining balance will just carry over to spring semester or you can request a full refund for the remaining amount. Remaining Red Card Meal Plan account balances always carry over from semester to semester and year to year.
- Each school year we work with our partner merchants to provide lots of savings opportunities for our cardholders in the form of value load coupons, Restaurant of the Week offers and other promotions. We will still have lots of savings opportunities this fall, but there will most likely be less available deals than in the past. Many of our merchant partners are working hard just to keep their heads above water right now, and discounts and promotions may not be possible for all locations. These restaurants, coffee shops and cafes that we all love really need our support right now.
How can Red Card keep your student eating the things they love while giving you peace of mind that they are staying safe?
RED CARD IS A 100% CONTACTLESS PAYMENT SYSTEM
RED CARD IS INTEGRATED WITH EAT STREET AND FRESH MADISON MARKET DELIVERY SYSTEMS
MADISON IS IN DANE COUNTY, THE MOST RESTRICTIVE COUNTY IN WISCONSIN
The Red Card Meal Plan is a prepaid dining and discount app that allows students to buy groceries at Fresh Madison Market and pay for meals at an always-expanding list of 90 close-to-campus, student-favorite locations in Madison. Students select their food, scan the barcode on the Red Card app, and the exact amount is deducted from their account. You can start a Red Card Meal Plan with any dollar amount, and balances carry over from semester to semester, year to year— so there are never any wasted dollars.
The Red Card Meal Plan is a great way to help your student budget his or her food money, and avoid costly ATM fees, overdraft penalties and interest charges. Parents are assured that food money is spent as intended, and student dining dollars are stretched as far as possible through exclusive cardholder coupons, deals and discounts.

My daughter loves her Red Card. It gives both her and I peace of mind that I can load her card with readily available cash and she can go to the grocery store and make purchases without worrying about the balance in her bank account. Love this program.
The Red Card has provided our family with an easy, convenient way to support our student’s food purchasing near campus, as well as provide a low-risk way for her to learn to budget her financial resources the first time living on ‘her own’. We like that it also offers so many different retail and restaurant options to choose from close at hand.
Your weekly specials, convenience on campus, and variety of restaurants provides me with food on a daily basis along with making it very accessible. From grabbing Potbelly’s after a long study session at Memorial Library or a salad from Fresh Madison Market on my way to class to getting food in the morning on game days when I go with friends to the Nitty Gritty, I utilize my card everywhere for anything! Thanks so much for making my college experience amazing and so much easier with this meal plan. Now I am manage my money and am able to eat on campus anywhere at anytime with no constraints!
I feel that the Red Card is a great product, as it is very easy for me to get groceries. Whenever I am running low on funds, my parents or relatives can put money on the card and they know that it will be put toward good things, as opposed to money I can just spend anywhere.
My phone messages, Facebook posts, emails and text messages all have a hard time breaking through the academic and social scene of our 2nd year Badger. But a deposit to the Red Card from the homefront garners an immediate contact from our student with appreciation and an update (however short) about life in Mad City. The Red Card has been a great way to offer a break from the campus meal plan and to stay in touch!
Even though my son still lives in the dorm, with the Red Card plan he has been able to do his own cooking this semester. He loves shopping at Fresh Madison Market. I get to use my 529 money to pay for the card and he gets to cook what he wants.
I really like how as new restaurants on State Street or around campus open, the Red Card is usually accepted there. I also enjoy how there are deals that allow Red Card holders to experience events around Madison, like concerts or festivals.
My son uses his Red Card mostly at the grocery store and called last week, all excited because he got a free ticket to a concert he really wanted to see from Red Card. The convenience, savings and perks are great!
